Young People & Prenatal

Young people are in the unique position of inheriting the future, yet are the least empowered to share ownership of its creation. Tech, social media, global warming, changing social paradigms, and mastering skills for the coming AI workforce; these are the elements of the complex riddle that young people must puzzle through. This uncertainty and stress clouding the horizon is often at the root of behavioral problems at school and in the home. Add to this stress the fact that many parents are too overwhelmed or underskilled to successfully navigate the terrain themselves. The result is a power and control struggle between two factions that should be natural allies. I will support young people and their families as we work towards the best solutions to the tensions of growing up in this challenging but exciting time.

For those planning a family or couples currently pregnant there is a prenatal psychology desert in our culture. The issues that can arise before the baby arrives can be unsettling, yet there is little support for expecting parents beyond the glut of how-to baby books and second hand information gathered at backyard barbeques, baby showers and birthday parties. I will focus on what the couple can expect when they are expecting. It’s not only about the arrival of a newborn but the radical re-configuring of a diad into a triangle, requiring new psychological growth and often times uncovering long forgotten parts of ourselves. I will provide up to date information and considerations that will transform what feels like a crash landing into an atmosphere of preparedness and confidence for the arrival of your newest family member.
